Reduce Sludge

E-mail Print PDF

The picture shows what can happen if you make the wrong choice in motor oil. This is a graphic of the results of a severe high temperature deposit test comparing different brands of motor oil. AMSOIL Synthetic 15w-40, on the right, shows significantly less deposits than the others. Which do you want in your engine?

AMSOIL synthetic lubricants are much more stable in high temperatures than refined oils are. Their superior heat stability reduces the rates of oil consumption, lubricant breakdown and lubricant oxidation, which keeps oil consumption low; equipment clean, protected and running right; and extends lubricant life.

Refined oils are composed of thousands of different shape, size, and weight, particles. As the oil heats up, the lighter particles boil or "burn" off first, this leaves the heavier particles behind. As this process continues the oil becomes thicker. The deposits left behind form the sludge that sticks to the inside of your engine.

AMSOIL synthetic motor oils are made in the lab. All of the particles are of the same size and shape, so there are no smaller ones to burn off and thicken the oil. This also reduces the deposit formation, as can be seen from the picture. This also tells a little bit about how AMSOIL can decrease friction. If the particles are of the same size and shape, they tend to "roll" easier. Thus they will reduce the friction between moving parts, and there will be less internal friction in the oil itself.
